PAUL PARKER ORTHOPAEDICS

Consultant Orthopaedic Knee, Foot and Ankle Surgeon

Mr Paul Parker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee, Foot and Ankle Surgeon with over 25 years experience as a Consultant, and 38 years as a doctor. Mr Parker is also the British Army's most senior Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, and he has a busy NHS practice at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, the UK's largest level 1 trauma centre.

Mr Parker's NHS base in Birmingham is a weekly commute from his home in North Yorkshire. Paul Parker Orthopaedics covers a large area of both the North of England and the Midlands, having regular clinics at Circle Health Group's Woodlands Hospital in Darlington (for patients 16 years+), and The Priory Hospital in Birmingham (for patients 18 years+). Mr Parker prides himself in providing a bespoke service which is centered around the individual needs of the patient. He and his team can provide a comprehensive assessment in the injuries of the knee, foot and ankle (both conservatively and operatively).

SPORTS INJURIES AND SOFT TISSUE KNEE AND ANKLE RECONSTRUCTION
In 2012 Mr Parker chose to to concentrate on lower limb sports medicine, and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. He treats a wide range of sports injuries from a high level athlete with a knee or ankle ligament injury, to someone who enjoys running or walking in their free time and is suffering with shin splints.

Having served on over 17 operational tours with the British Army, Mr Parker has an excellent understanding of the needs of the 'soldier athlete' and routinely treats military personnel from all over the UK and overseas.

ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT (ACL) RECONSTRUCTION
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a highly specialised operation. Your ACL is the most important, some would say crucial, ligament in your knee. Without it your knee is significantly more rotationally unstable, and early damage to your meniscii and joint surfaces often occurs. Mr Parker has over 25 years of experience in ACL surgery and revision ACL surgery, and carries them out routinely both in the NHS and privately.

ANKLE ARTHROSCOPY

Mr Parker is one of the few consultant orthopaedic surgeons in the UK known for regularly carrying out ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction, both within the private sector and the NHS. Ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction are not performed in many hospitals, however, the particular requirements and specific injury patterns of military personnel mean that Mr Parker has extensive experience of these procedures.

WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEMS
Mr Parker's specialist interests also include the more general wear and tear problems with the knee, foot, ankle and toes, such as knee or ankle instability, and bunions. Mr Parker is also known nationally for his investigation and successful treatment of plantar fasciitis.

JOINT PRESERVATION
Having previously performed lower limb joint replacement surgery for over 14 years, Mr Parker is keen to use modern joint preservation techniques to prolong the life of the knee and ankle, avoiding joint replacement surgery.
